People who refuse to watch "long movies"

Main Post:

I've heard it from friends, loved ones, and strangers. "Oh I don't watch anything longer than an hour and a half." Or, "ugh, who can watch such a movie in a single session?" I swear, this opinion is always said like it's a point of serious wisdom to be proud of. It's pride in being un-curious and having a short attention span. It's fully understandable to not have a lot of free time, but I just can't help but look down upon people who refuse to "challenge themselves" by watching something for a couple of hours.

Top Comment: I like movies with intermission. Plays usually have one.

[question] watches that last a lifetime.

Main Post:

What are some watch brands that will last a lifetime? I am looking forward to buying a watch which will go on for a long span of life, say nearly 50 years? What are some brands which deliver such watches?

Top Comment: I’d say the mechanical watches that stand the best chance of lasting forever are the ones with common movements that make it easy to find parts. Most mechanical watches can be maintained to last forever, but the maintenance can become prohibitively difficult or costly if the movements are uncommon. In 50 years there will still be a lot of common parts floating around. But parts for that in-house movement that was made for a 10 year run by a mid-sized brand will be harder to find or fabricate.

[unpopular opinion] the average guy wears a watch that is too large

Main Post:

hey all, I feel strongly about this but it seems as though I am in the minority. I consider myself a pretty well-dressed fellow. Taking a trip over to r/malefashionadvice, or even asking any fashionable person, the resounding advice when someone wants to dress better is to buy clothes that fit you. Most people before developing a sense of style buy shirts and pants that are far too large... you see where this is going. Every person has a different body shape and size, so you really need to clothe yourself. Now obviously there is room for individual styles and preferences, but despite whether your style is drapes and comfort or skin-tight leather jackets, there always has to have a sense of proportion and unity. That brings me to wristwatches. You would not try to fit a slender guy in a size 42 suit, and you would not squeeze a linebacker into a size 38. If you have a smaller wrist (say under 7 inches), wear a size 34-38 watch. If you have a burly lumberjack wrist, wear a size 40-44 watch. It just looks better and makes sense. Again, again, I can already hear the crowd saying, "but it's all subjective, man" and "maybe it looks better to YOU," but the 140 pound dude in a size 42 suit looks like a teenager at prom wearing his dad's jacket

tl;dr the demand for large watches makes me butt-hurt because I come across beautiful watches that turn out to be 70 mm in diameter

Top Comment: That’s not unpopular opinion.

Convince me to take Return Fire over Longwatch

Main Post:

Even if I'm building full gunslinger, I almost never take return fire. At max squad rank, it has a once in six chance of proccing on a given turn, then there's the chance to hit, culminating in, at least early/mid game, a rather mediocre bit of damage. Longwatch makes gunslingers so much more versatile, because it means that if they happen to be further from the engagement, they can still contribute meaningfully to the fight with a much larger damage range. I really see no positives to taking return fire other than if your gunslinger has wraith armor, a dodge pcs, and is getting marked by captains every turn.

Top Comment:

Because it is badass to watch them return fire.

[Question] Looking for a good, long lasting watch to buy for myself.

Main Post:

I'm getting to the point in my life where I feel like I should be buying a watch that will last me a long time. I've been looking around, and I don't want to spend more than $200, but I'm willing to go to $275 (i'm a bit tight on the budget at the moment)

I'm also looking for a specific style, which I haven't been able to find. I've looked into some citizen, and casio but I haven't found what I'm looking for.

  • Dark leather band
  • Minimalist face
  • dark copper/bronze OR black face

I felt as though this was the right place to turn. All of you always seem to know so much about this kind of thing.

Welcome to r/watches.

With your budget and how you worded things, I am assuming you are not in the market for a mechanical movement watch. You could afford one, but servicing costs may add up. Regardless, look at the Orient Bambino if you want something like this.

Your best bet would be to get a solar powered Citizen eco-drive or a Seiko Solar. They start from around $30 and can be anywhere to $1500. If you buy an eco-drive, and follow the directions, it should run for atleast 15 years.

Alternatively, you can buy any quartz watch you like and swap out the batteries.

Bigger watches?

Main Post:

Personally i like bigger watches usually anything with a 51-52mm face usually. I love nixons (don't judge) and I was just wondering if there was any other larger faced watches that weren't gaudy (like most diesels) that anyone could point out. I have no interested in expensive high end stuff, I just want something that looks good and is within a 100-400 dollar price range.

Not sure what the general consensus on these are, but I was looking into Tsovet watches for a bit, and I thought about buying one, until I found out how big they are.

Again, not sure what the general thoughts on these are, as I am new here, and haven't seen them mentioned.

I really like this watch, but it's so big. Is enormous watches a fad that will pass? Or is it better to go for something that is already timeless.

Top Comment:

It's all relative. I think that the IWC Portuguese has a timeless look to it, so the size doesn't detract from it or make it a 'fad'. But then again, I could be biased.
